There's a lot of noise around AI at the moment. Studios either claiming it's revolutionising everything, or quietly pretending they're not using it at all.
We'll be straight with you. We use it every day.
Part of the process, not separate from it
AI has worked its way into almost every part of how we operate at Hatch, from the earliest stages of a project right through to delivery.
In the research phase it helps us get up to speed quickly, understanding an industry, pulling together references, interrogating a brief from different angles. In moodboarding, we use it to collate imagery that reflects the visual territory we're exploring, giving us a broader starting point and helping us pressure test ideas before we've committed serious time to them.
In content creation it goes further. We're using AI to generate images, animate from static assets, and export files at scale, tasks that used to eat into time that's better spent on the work itself.
What that means for our clients
The honest answer is that it means we can do more in less time.
When AI handles the repetitive, time-consuming parts of a project, our designers can focus on the decisions that actually require craft and judgment. That efficiency doesn't just benefit us, it reduces costs for our clients while maintaining the same standard of output they've come to expect from Hatch.
That's not a small thing. Good design has always been worth investing in, and anything that makes it more accessible without compromising the quality is worth taking seriously.
Our designers are always in control
None of this changes who's making the creative calls.
AI is a tool in our process, not a replacement for the thinking behind it. It doesn't understand a client's business, their audience, or the particular problem we're trying to solve. It can't tell you why one direction feels right and another doesn't. That judgment sits with our designers, and it always will.
The studios that use AI well won't be the ones who use it most. They'll be the ones who stay clear on what it's for and what it isn't.
We're always learning
AI is moving fast, and we're moving with it.
We're constantly exploring new tools and use cases, making sure our team is across the latest releases and how they can be applied to our work. Not for the sake of it, but because staying curious about what's possible is part of how we keep delivering work that's genuinely strong.
That's the standard we hold ourselves to. And right now, AI is helping us meet it.
